As moms, we don’t often take
the time to make sure that we are mentally sound. We are so occupied with our
husbands and our children, that our mental wellness takes a back seat. However,
it’s so important that we take time to assess how we are feeling and what we need.
Many of us suffer from mental health issues, and those that don’t; still suffer from
giving too much to others and not enough to yourselves!
So it’s time to take a few minutes for YOU!
Not sure what that means these days? I know… I get it. Here are 10 things that you can do for yourself and your well being! Let’s dig in!
- Breath Momma!
Learning to breathe is a powerful and helpful tool when it comes to motherhood. Sometimes it’s all you can do when your kid is throwing a fit and you just don’t have an answer. The best thing you for yourself in a stressful situation is take a deep breath in (4 seconds) and out. (Go ahead and swear under your breath if you need to too, it might make you feel better too)
2. Take a walk
I can’t stress enough what a small walk can do to uplift your mood. Fresh air, a different environment; it can be really beneficial to not only your health..but your spirits! Start your day off with a walk thinking about what you want to do for the day, or what you are grateful for, or take a walk in the evening and think about something that made you happy that day, or something you accomplished!
3. Practice yoga/meditation
Try and find a few minutes of time each day to clear your mind by practicing yoga or meditation! YouTube has TONS of videos to help break you into the wonderful world of both. Try a search for either and see what works best for you! Even if this might be difficult, try and at least stretch for 5 minutes a day! Your body and muscles will thank you!
4. Get creative
Give that left brain some lovin by doing something artsy! Sit down and color with the kids, grab an adult coloring book and dig in! They can be super relaxing! Find something fun to do on Pinterest, or freestyle a watercolor painting for the heck of it!
5. Read a book
When is the last time you read a book? Personally, I can’t even remember the last book I read! Which really makes me want to, and encourage you as well to take some time to find a book that interests you and dig in. Whether it is a romance, self help, or something funny. Sit down, get cozy for like 15 minutes after bedtime and dig into something! (It’s good for your kids to see you read too!)
6. Bake a sweet treat
I always get peppy after I make a sweet treat. One, because I accomplished something, and two because now I have something yummy to reward myself with! Just don’t go overboard with this one. 😉
7. Give your body some TLC
When is the last time you put on a face mask? Lathered up your whole, beautiful, momma bod in lotion and did some serious moisturizing? Your body deserves some loving so take 30-45 minutes to do just that! You will feel better, and be glad you did!
8. Go shopping!
No! Not grocery shopping! Shopping for YOU! When is the last time you bought something for yourself?? Leave the kids at home for a couple hour, grab yourself your favorite drink for the ride and hit those aisles! Whether it be a new shirt, a nice smelling candle, or something cute for yourself. You deserve it mom, for reals. Get something nice for you!
Make sure you are eating! I am constantly guilty of forgetting to eat throughout the day. Life is so busy, these kids are SO busy, I often find myself at dinner going “Hm. This is the first time I’m eating today!” Most of those days, I am extra cranky, extra tired, and over it, yet I don’t realize it until it’s too late. So check yourself, before you wreck yourself and make sure you are
The most important thing you can do for yourself is to speak up when you are struggling! Reach out when you need help. Find a friend to vent to, your husband, another mom, your mom… someone… anyone! Every mom needs someone they can go to and say I am having a really shitty time right now. Don’t let your feelings built up until you explode. Being a mom is SUPER hard. Let’s not sugar coat it! We need all the support we can get. Talk about your feelings Momma, you will feel better!
It can be very hard to open up to our spouses or our friend’s, when we are
having a hard time. It’s important that you all know that you’re not alone.
Everyone gets overwhelmed, and as moms, we can easily go into overload. Take
the time to breathe everyday and check in with yourself. Try to take at least a few
minutes, that belong only to you. You can take a walk, meditate, do yoga, journal,
paint, or read a book. These are just a few examples of some of the things that
help me, when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Take care of yourselves Momma’s
because you are just as important as everyone that you take care of! Happy
Momma = Happy Home!
